French restaurants and the Frankfurt Book Fair 2007
Guest of honour: France – reason enough, surely, to devote an evening or two at the Book Fair to the culinary delights of that country. In the “Restaurant Guide Frankfurt Rhein Main”, Messe Frankfurt’s guide to the region’s eating establishments, you will find a tempting array of restaurants with a French flavour to their menus.
Near the fair: Allgaiers, the Baltique Deli, the Frankfurter Botschaft on the riverside, the 2-star Restaurant Lafleur and the Stanley Diamond Frankfurt. The Operncafé looks out on the old opera house and from the Main Tower Restaurant & Lounge you can enjoy not only exclusive cuisine but a fantastic view over the city. Bad Homburg, a beautiful spa town bordering Frankfurt to the north, can be reached easily by car in around 15 minutes and its Golfhaus Restaurant is known not only for its French but also its international cuisine. Bad Homburg’s casino, incidentally, is only five minutes from there on foot.
The SchauMahl in Offenbach – to the east of Frankfurt – is conceived as a meeting place for passionate gourmets. In the Kronenschlösschen and the Burg Schwarzenstein, the Rheingau region to the west of Frankfurt also has much to offer the discerning palate. The Michelin-starred Le Gourmet in the hotel Die Hirschgasse in Heidelberg offers classical cuisine to which Mario Sauer imparts a modern touch, served with a Gallic flourish by Gilles Duflot and his team and accompanied by some exceptional wines for the connoisseur to discover.
